Where and When: Lefler Middle School on Thursdays from 3 to 5 PMor Park Middle School during 7th grade lunch.
Latina Leaders provides weekly group sessions and case management for Latina girls of age 12 to 18 years old with the goal of preventing youth from entering the juvenile justice system, with secondary goals of preventing gang involvement, truancy, and aiding in a youth’s path towards graduation. Latina Leaders provides gender, age, and culturally relevant social and leadership development sessions. The program also consists of quarterly field trips to places such as employment/vocational sites, educational institutions, and pro-social activity sites. Group sessions also consist of bringing in Latina role models within the community to come speak to the youth about their experiences and share tips on how to achieve similar successes in life, as well as providing reasons on why to avoid negative lifestyles, such as gang involvement.
